Romantic Lake Como, Italy

Romantic Lake Como, Italy

After hearing many great things about Lake Como, we decided to go there for one night. We hopped on another train heading north to  Lake Como before our last stop of Italy.

The Milan station is a really large hub, and it looks like a newly renovated part of the station, as you can see the old side once you exit.

Our hotel was located in the town of Bellagio, considered the jewel of Lake Como. From the Lake Como train station, it was another 45 minute bus ride through winding hillside roads to get to Bellagio. It was really cold when we arrived, and it looked like it was about to rain. It made for some really majestic and heavenly looking photos as the sun peeked through the clouds over the lake.

Prior to visiting, I never really put together that Bellagio was an actual town in Italy, and just took the Las Vegas Casino as another Italian name. Turns out, it’s named after the actual town of Bellagio (so that’s why there’s the fountain in the front of the casino, duh!) , and they did a pretty good job of replicating the look of it!

Lake Como has several towns with beautiful and expensive mansions along the coast. One of the most famous being owned by George Clooney.  The towns surrounding Lake Como have the picturesque colorful buildings on the coast of the lake similar to the towns along the Amalfi coast.  It’s a great getaway from any bustling cities and has a more small town, intimate feel to it.

Bellagio is a very small town and you can walk the whole town in about an hour or so (depending on how fast you walk). By night time it was pouring rain outside and we were basically forced to stay in and just relax. It was a much needed break from our constant schedule, so it was a perfect refresher for us. On our way back to the train station, we opted to take the fast speed hydrofoil. This was a great idea as it provided some really amazing views of the lake and the other small towns along the coast.

Lake Como is a very romantic place and Bellagio was a great stopover on the way to Venice from Milan. I imagine it to be an even more wonderful place to visit in the summertime when you can hang out at one of the many rooftop decks overlooking the beautiful views of the lake.
