Shortly after visiting various Game of Thrones Locations throughout Croatia and Spain, we were on our way to another country where the show has filmed – Morocco!

As part of a Desert Trek tour, we visited the UNESCO Town Ait Ben Haddou, which has also been made famous by films such as Gladiator, The Mummy, and Prince of Persia.

Upon Arriving at Ait Ben Haddou, you’re immediately greeted with the recognizable mud brick town used as the setting of Yunkai.  This is one of the several towns where Daenerys Targaryen went on her slave-freeing spree, building herself a powerful army of supporters.

There are families that live within the Ait Ben Haddou complex, and many of them have starred as extras during filming.  While visiting one artist’s home, we noticed there were several photos up on the wall with members of the Game of Thrones cast!

The town has a very distinct look and feel to it, and it’s no wonder Hollywood loves to film here.

Another town we visited while in Morocco was the Port town of Essouria which is used for the town of Astapor in Game of Thrones.

• Arrival at Slaver’s Bay

• Meeting the Unsullied army and building an even bigger army.

• The Walk of Punishment scene where they utilized the cannon platforms.

Similar to the filming locations we visited in Croatia and Spain, we unintentionally managed to capture a lot of locations that were used in the show.It’s always fun comparing our sightseeing photos to the show and seeing that we’ve managed to visit places like “Yunkai” and “Astapor!”  Hope you enjoyed the extension of our make-shift Game of Thrones Tour! 🙂
